Chuck Klosterman says, “Art and love are the same things: It’s the process of seeing yourself in things that you are not.”  Before you make up your mind for a roller coaster ride with an artist, give it a read.

All of us know about the legendary artist, Pablo Picasso; but do you know what is his most expensive portrait sold to date? It is Nude, Green Leaves, and Bust, which features Marie-Thérèse Walter. Who was that woman? A mistress and model of Picasso for whom the painter left his first wife, Olga. Picasso even refused to divorce Olga to prevent her from receiving half of his wealth. Olga, with the burden of an unhappy marriage, drank to death. So, by dating an artist, you can be immortal in the pages of history as Marie has been, or you can just be used and thrown off, like Olga (of course, these are extreme examples; you can have a happy and exceptionally beautiful life too).

Experience Out-of-The-Box Dating

Candle lights and roses are too mainstream, and very few of those kinds of dates actually turn out to be as romantic as shown in Bollywood. Artists always come up with exceptional ideas about where to go on a date. This can be an evening of Shakespearean drama, like “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, a day at a book fair, or just a beautiful walk in an unknown street and having the special masala-tea that you might not have tasted yet!

Literally Creative Gifts

Creative minds make the basic difference between an ordinary human and an artist. Probably you have earlier got a box of chocolates, or teddy bears, as gifts. But, an artist can give you something as exclusive as a poem or a hand-embroidered handkerchief, specially crafted for you. Every gift is special, but only lucky ones get gifts, which are crafted just once.

Adventurous Love-life

Love-life with an artist is never boring. It’s like an apocalypse. Minds, especially the creative ones, always hold some mysteries that their partners love to explore. Research says the more mysterious a lover is, the more attractive he/she becomes.

Limelight

Artists have their own limelight. They are always in the spotlight among the people. So, dating an artist gives you a celeb-like aura; though some partners do not like it at all.

Being a muse

You can be the muse of one’s art. Even if the love affair doesn’t work after a certain time, you can live immortally through a piece of art if you are dating a true artist, and that is really amazing!

CONS OF DATING AN ARTIST

Be Like-minded

To enjoy the roller coaster ride while dating an artist, you have to be like-minded. You can only enjoy the exceptional dating ideas or the creative hand-crafted gifts if you have the eyes to appreciate those things or the imagination to absorb those experiences. If you can’t relate to those eccentric ideas, sorry to say, but it’s not a match!

Comparison Kills

You should never compare your artist partner with others, even if you just want to make them jealous. This can put an end to your relationship. As a matter of fact, you cannot compare a painting they have gifted you on your birthday with a MAC lipstick, or a Fastrack watch that your friend got from their lover!

Mood Swings

An abrupt change in mood is the most irritating part of dating an artist. A sudden change of plan in what you have invested a lot is very common in a relationship. Artists have their frustrations, like – writer’s block, painter’s block, etc. and a partner has to go through these phases in relationships many times.

Artist Means Art

For the true artists, their art would always be on the top of the priority list. One has to be satisfied with the second or third position. Sometimes, an artist gets so involved in their artwork that he or she forgets everything about their partner, they can miss an important date in your life or can totally forget what you have asked him to do on a particular date.

Ego and Insecurity of an Artist

Artists have their insecurities. For instance, Salvador Dali, a famous painter, let his wife, Gala, have multiple extra-marital affairs with other men, as he claimed himself to be impotent. This underlines Dali’s insecurity to satisfy Gala. Picasso had two firm requirements from his women: They have to be short and submissive. This actually highlights the egoistic nature of the artist.

Now, before we buckle up on the pros and cons of dating an artist, we’ll talk about that secret condition: When and how would you really enjoy dating an artist? The answer is simple: Be a lover of art. Appreciate the unique ideas of your partner. We all have an artist within ourselves, try to explore that side of yours. It will not help you in your love life, but you will also start to enjoy the little things in your life that you have overlooked till now.
