Who wouldn’t prefer spending their time sharing some intimate moments with their partner? However, there are some risks attached to this too. We have heard about a few sexually transmitted diseases like HIV, gonorrhea, syphilis, etc. These diseases spread because of unprotected sexual intercourse.

Earlier, people considered discussing this topic taboo. With time, the technology advanced, and so did its awareness. Today, there are various ways to detect these diseases, and technology has made it a matter of minutes.

Let us understand a few ways through which we can diagnose such diseases.

Rapid Tests

To test HIV and syphilis, one can opt for immunochromatographic tests (ICT). This method is the most affordable, trusted, sensitive, specific, and requires minimal training. As the name suggests, these tests are rapid. Hence, it prevents the disease from being transmitted to a child from the mother. All you need for this is a single-finger prick blood sample.

Microfluidic Assays

From a single specimen, the microfluidic assays can detect multiple analytes. Such assays can also reproduce all the performance characteristics related to HIV and syphilis. There are chips attached to these assays. They are very cheap. There are small battery-powered devices attached to these assays to read the results.

Molecular Tests

With the innovation in technology and science, we can now find out the content of our nucleic acids through molecular tests. It is a very user-friendly process where you only have to give in your blood sample for the diagnosis of sexually transmitted diseases. It also helps to detect any pathogens linked with such infections.

Apart from these, there are a few amplification tests available in the market to know about these infections. HIV has been the most common sexually transmitted disease. Therefore, awareness about the same is necessary.

We talked about the role of technology in finding out about these diseases. Now, let us talk about how technology helps spread awareness about these diseases.

Video Lessons

In the past, since discussing sex was taboo, nobody would even dare to talk about STDs. But with the advent of technology, YouTube and other online platforms came into the picture. These platforms gave the kids and adolescents a chance to connect with such topics. They watched the videos and gained the knowledge themselves. Hence, the younger generation sees the tests as a precaution rather than taboo.

Search Engines

You no longer need to look for books in the library. Your smartphone has it all. If you have an active internet connection, you can easily open any search engine and look for STDs. Most children today opt for this option to know about topics that the elders don’t want to talk about. These search engines have multiple websites that provide them with in-depth information regarding their doubts and enrich their knowledge.

This way, technology helps spread awareness regarding STDs and the precautions to undertake. If more people are aware of it, we can prevent such diseases. And we cannot deny the fact that without the support of technology, we would be able to combat sexually transmitted diseases.
